Sputnik died this morning.
I got him on my 12th birthday.
He was about 12 years old.
He liked having his ears rubbed.
He liked to chew on Little Girl's ears.
He knew a few tricks.
Sit.
Shake.
But he was best at
SPEAK.
He poked you with his nose when he wanted attention.
or food.
He was a good hunter too.
He could catch rats and squirrels.
And dig for gophers,
and climb trees for birds.
Cats will sleep a little easier now.
He was really laid back.
He didn't bother with all the doggie gossip.
he was to mature for all that.
he was a good watch dog.
He like to play tug of war, but never really bothered with fetch.
I really loved that dog.
It's hard to think about all the things we did right now.
But I am glad to have these memories.
And it's even harder to think of the times I was gone.
I wonder what he did when I wasn't there.
He was always happy to see me when i got there though.
He knew who I was.
No matter how long I was gone.
No matter what color my hair was.
He knew he was my dog.
He loved me.
And I loved him.

We all loved Sput.
I thought you might want to know what he did when you were gone.
Some things he was famous for:
being real good at finding the lowest spot on the fence to go cruising at night. I don't know where he shopped when he was out but he usually found real nice loafs of bread and stuff.
being real bad at not getting caught trying to get back inside the fence when we came home, although "Lil'girl" was dreadful and usually Sput watched as we herded her over the fence.
Both her and Sput were the best tree climber dogs in the neighborhood, or anywhere that I know of. When there was a cat up there anyway.
On one of thier journeys over the trees and roofs of the backyard they did a real fine job of smashing the window out of the Mercedes. although I thought it was very inconciderate of them to do this I always smiled when I thought about it.
I've missed all the dogs since I've left Modesto, but Sput and Lil'girl had to be the best. Always there to be our friend (that is unless they had food to eat, but they'd always be back after)

and one more
